Hi Scott,

I replaced a motherboard ABAE_LE Compaq Presario and I am getting an error at startup.
Error: Cpu Fan has failed: Press F2 to continue! I tried a new 939 Socket Cpu Fan and still got the same error. I went to compaq website and read the Error: Message page
there no adjustments in advance, Hardware Monitor and Cpu Fan Check. When I go to hardware monitor hit enter it's one screen with everything grey out. I saw some different
CPU Fans one states 5600+ I am assuming thats the speed? I also update the Bios to Ver.3.15 per the compaq website this did nothing. Hoping, you may think of a way to
correct this error or maybe what fan to purchase. The Cpu Fan I purchased from Fry's
thermaltake socket 740, 939, ect.

Thanks, Craig

What happens when you clear the CMOS RAM? If that doesn't help, a new board might be in order. Scott.

Board seems to be HP oem

Note that (seemingly) the correct name is A8AE-LE (AmberineM) you said ABAE_LE

bottom link mentions pressing F11 at startup to disable fan detection

Yes, F11 worked!

First, I cleared the cmos with the jumper. Then I was able to enter the advance
option of the cmos. When I clicked on Hardware Monitor now I had options I
turn off Check Fan Speed and rebooted the computer, perfect no error.

Thanks for that tip,

Craig
